{UAH} More NUP senior leaders resign, cite segregation

Senior leaders in the National Unity Platform from the Northern and North Western Uganda regions have dropped their responsibilities in the party. They all accuse party leaders of segregation and non involvement in several of the party activities.

The leaders include the General Secretary for the West Nile region Julius Apeko, Samuel Obedgiu, the Deputy National Youth Coordinator for the Northern region and Samuel Okot the chairperson of the Acholi sub region.

Also, sources at the party headquarters told this website that others including Innocent Natukunda, the head of the Tooro sub region have threatened to resign the party leadership saying, the party leadership not only disrespects them, but also there isn't inclusiveness in the party processes.

Well as one of those who resigned wrote a letter to the party leadership indicating he resigned, others withdrew from the different party groups and correspondences as a sign on non compliance.

The leaders accuse the Party General Secretary Mr. David Lewis Rubongoya for refusing to work with them during the election season, accuse him of being a bully, "one who believes he only uses the team as and when he desires."

They accuse the secretary general of sending teams from head office to the different electoral areas to carry out activities without consent from them, the area structural leaders. "We now question if we are important when during vital activities, we aren't invited to participate," one of the leaders told this website.

In January this year, Mr. Rubongoya sent well facilitated teams to different destinations upcountry to engage in electoral processes, including the securing of victory of the NUP candidate Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine.

However, none of the area structural leaders were informed about the processes and deployments, "rendering us irrelevant, incompetent and useless." Also, those sent up country were arrested by security upon identification, leaving most polling stations in the North, East and the West Nile without official party polling agents.

The resignations follow earlier withdraw of Spartan Achilles from the leadership of the Party over similar challenges.

The flamboyant young leader according to sources who do not want to be named was frustrated by the inability of the party leaders to move forward with their roles said objectives which included the quest for better governance and the change of Uganda's Political terrain.

"Time came when Spartan was playing the pivotal role in connecting the Diaspora to the party Leadership. Since his departure, several members of the Diaspora have turned guns to the Secretary General and his subordinates accusing him of several moral questions." A source within the party leadership told this website.

Last month, Mr. David Lewis Rubongoya traveled with a team of leaders in the party to the Diaspora retreat held in the United States. However, a handful of party members attended the retreat citing moral decadence of the key speakers in the retreat.

When contacted for a comment, Mr. Rubongoya did not pick our repeated calls on his known telephone number.
