{UAH} Was NUP m7's best gift from God?
Ategeka Joshua Bwomeezi Ateenyi:
Believing that mr. Museveni would be declared a loser in an election organised by himself was to fall in a deep and huge trap. Surely mr. Museveni prefer(s)(ed) an opposition that believes in his elections to an opposition party that doesn't do so. With that sincere explanation it would be totally wrong to say NUP's emergency wasn't a blessing in disguise to mr. Museveni.
Amos Kasibante:
I dispute the theory that Kyagulanyi' presidential bid was an opportunity for Museveni and the NRM, as some views suggest. That theory is questionable given the violence inflicted on Kyagulanyi and NUP supporters before, during and after the campaigns. It flies in the face of evidence. By the same argument, one could say that Mugisha Muntu, POA, and Mao came as a blessing to Museveni.
What can be said about the main opposition parties (FDC, DP, and NUP) is that they failed to form a viable coalition to put up a united front or strategy against the NRM. To his credit, Kyagulanyi was able to push back against the NRM in Buganda like no other opposition party had done.
