British MP stabbed in own constituency

According to Sky News, a man walked into the office and stabbed Amess several times. The Conservative MP would be treated for his injuries on the spot. An air ambulance would also be on site. It is unknown what his condition is at the moment.

In a short statement, the local police shared: ,,We were called to a stabbing at 12.05 pm. Shortly afterwards, a man was arrested. We are no longer looking for anyone else. We’ll come up with more information when we have it.” 69-year-old British politician Sir David Amess is one of the longest-serving Members of Parliament. He has been sitting in the House of Commons on behalf of the Conservatives since 1983. Since 1997, he has represented the Southend West district, northeast of London. He has never held the position of minister, and in parliament is mainly committed to animal rights. Amess has 5 children.

British politicians reacted with shock to the incident. Labor leader Keir Starmer called it “shocking” and “horrific”: “My thoughts go out to David, his family and associates.” Party member of Amess Michael Fabricant also said he was shocked.
