{UAH} EXPOSED: HOW KASESE EX-MP MBAJU JACKSON PULLED ‘KIWAANI’ ON BOBI WINE AND OTHER NUP BOSSES.

EXPOSED: HOW KASESE EX-MP MBAJU JACKSON PULLED 'KIWAANI' ON BOBI WINE  AND  OTHER NUP BOSSES.

On Monday 29th November, ex-Busongora South MP  Mbaju Jackson  Kathika (whose best friend in the 10th Parliament incidentally was Joseph Sewungu) turned up at NUP headquarters Kamwokya to proclaim his defection.

He claimed to have come with 50 equally very important leaders. In his speech, Mbaju (who didn't have any claim to fame in the 10th Parliament) scorned FDC (his former party) saying it had lost direction just like the ruling NRM.

He (quite expectedly) never elaborated or explained what that "loss of direction" meant and the audience being an NUP gathering, nobody prompted him to.

The truth is that Mbaju got into irredeemable political problems (2016-2021) when he came off as a lukewarm legislator in the 10th Parliament (was always in committee and canteen seated taking tea and sumbusas as opposed to being outspoken as can be expected of an opposition legislator).

And this lukewarmness naturally created political vacuum in the constituency which someone else positioned himself to effectively occupy. And this came in the form of Aloysius Baguma Kighema who (in 2020) grabbed the FDC ticket and represented the Najjanankumbi party in the January 2021 general elections.

However, the resultant in-fighting and intrigue in the constituency cost the change-seeking forces as both Mbaju and Kighema lost to Gideon Thembo Mujungu who was the NRM candidate.

Mujungu won with 7,601 votes against Mbaju's 7,522 and Kighema's 6,956 votes. Other candidates in that race were Frank Asiimwe Barozi (2,392), DP's Benadet Busingye (1,318), Boaz Kafuda (1,187), Sedrack Bakulirahi Mbaju Arinaitwe (803), ANT's Juma Munerezo and NUP's Micheal Masereka (790 votes).

Clearly, there is no way the NRM candidate would have carried the day if the opposition had coalesced around one candidate in Busongora South. Unable to secure FDC endorsement for the second time, the lukewarm Mbaju sought reelection on the independent ticket.

As we have all learned (or are supposed to have learnt) from the Ingrid Turinawe experience, in the FDC party one ceases to be a member the moment they stand as independents against official party candidates.

Both Semujju Nganda and SG Nandala Mafabi maintain that this is the dictate of the FDC Constitution to which all interests in the party must be subordinated.

So, on standing as an independent, Mbaju (even his youngest child knows) ceased to be an FDC member just like it happened with Ingrid Turinawe (got 2,266 votes), whose candidature in Rukungiri Municipality not only cost the official FDC candidate Wallen Tumwine Nuwagaba (got 3,584) but also paved way for victory of NRM candidate Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa (won with 5,588 votes), Mbaju automatically lost the FDC membership.

Under the leadership of the long-serving FDC Kasese district chairman Saulo Matte (a renowned strict disciplinarian who also expelled Winnie Kiiza and Robert Centenary), Mbaju was expelled with disgrace for defying the party primary election results by standing as an independent.

Even when this truth is out there in black & white, Mbaju (taking advantage of the NUP crowd who he knew wouldn't verify) turned up at Kamwokya on Monday and deceptively told the cheering audience that he was in principle defecting from FDC protesting the alleged loss of direction (as he called it).

It was such a deceitful act for which Mbaju deserves castigation as opposed to commendation because truth-telling is one of the very basic minimums that must be required of all leaders.

Being NUP (where anything goes), the man (deceitful and untruthful as he is) could soon be unveiled as coordinator for Rwenzori. It remains to be seen how much confidence and following a leader of such pedigree can inspire in favor of the nascent NUP party.
