{UAH} IS A VILLAGE HOUSE IMPORTANT?
First build a town house to avoid spending much on rent then later the village house. It costs a lot more to build in this City compared to a village. If you can afford both a village and town house, please build them both! People underestimate the importance of a village home. It goes beyond having a place to sleep during holidays and extends to one's personal fulfillment and Comfort which are very important too. So, if you can afford them, please have them. Even in Europe, people [who can afford] have second homes in the country and holiday homes abroad. Most have second homes, and sometimes the second home is abroad. in Europe there are 2nd homes, so called summer homes. But usually inherited, cared for and shared amongst siblings and their kids
In Africa we are buried at our ancestral homes. It is necessary to have a second home if you can afford it. In some African cultures, you cannot claim you are from a village until you can point to your house esp if you are an adult male. In Uganda, the rural House is mostly for cultural reasons. It isn't a commercial investment. I believe as a true African man, a home upcountry is vital because it defines your origin.
when we age, we need a good environment, free from chaos etc,. So, a village house is ideal. There is also what is known as intrinsic value to certain things...owning a home in Uganda is one such example. My professor perhaps said it well, he said intrinsic value is an old woman in Europe donating money to save whales in Atlantic ocean... she may never see the whales or ocean but is satisfied/happy about supporting a cause. It's similar with village homes whether we stay in them or not for many reasons, some of them cultural.
Africans we should learn making our villages centers of investment and development, that's the only way we are gonna develop and uplift standards of living and attract investment in rural Africa. So those big exquisite mansions are not " A WASTE " but a "PLUS". Some don't go to village because they don't have any developments there or they are not self employed and are working far from home but time will come when you need to be village.
If you have to defend your decision with over one thousand words, it's most likely a wrong a decision. We all can't run factories, or build guest houses. A decent village home is a must for any right thinking member of society.
