{UAH} Make electricity cheaper
Make electricity cheaper
Lower electricity prices to benefit the vulnerable instead of giving incentives to investors. It's clear that electricity in Uganda is still expensive regardless of the many dams being constructed. Amidst all these challenges in the electricity sector, Uganda's government continues to invest more.
The National Household Survey 2019/2020 notes that while Uganda's generation capacity increases, more people are opting for solar power as opposed to hydro and grid power connection.
Due to the shortage of electricity in Uganda, and especially amidst the pandemic, many learners fail to study; the economy is not growing as it should because the many informal sectors cannot manage to pay for electricity.
The government, Umeme and other private companies need to lower electricity prices to benefit the disadvantaged instead of giving incentives to the investors.
The ministry of Energy and Mineral Development needs to invest more in clean energy such as solar and biomass. This is because it's affordable.
More so, there is need to pass and implement a solar policy and consumer protection policy to create awareness on the importance of solar energy.
