{UAH} KARAMOJA INFERNO : REAL CRIMINAL ARSON ATTACKS ?
Poor Karamojong natives running away from homesteads deliberately set on fire!
What's going on in Karamoja Region is just terrible and it should very deeply touch with special concern every Ugandan.People in many localities are losing their homes, burnt down by the military following orders from bosses ! These fires are assumed to be deliberate with certain political intentions including open cattle theft at gunpoint, land grabbing, etc.. What surprises are reports to the effect that when the true cattle raiders and rustlers are arrested by the population the military release them.....but the herds of cattle disappear! And the very important thing is that no journalist or pressman is allowed to come around. The picture above shows desperate Karamajongs running away for their life after hundreds and hundreds of their homes were burnt down in the locality of Locheker East in Kaabong District. Many people lost their lives, property was destroyed, and 1.000 people are now homeless. And this is more or less the trend characterized in very many parts of Karamoja. What's the plan behind all this grave injustice? To dispossess the people of the meagre wealth and property they have in order to place them in camps while on the other hand their land is taken away? Or partially a punishment for having shifted loyalty from a political camp in order to embrace wide sympathy for another, as it's rumoured? Or is all this due to other factors including the rich natural wealth of the region at which individuals, companies, foreign enterprises have systematically cast covetous glances? And there are rumours circulating pointing to a programme of settling thousands of immigrants in the region. Other observations point to a possibility of granting big chunks of land to foreign companies.True or not true? The opinion of local Karamojong leaders and tribal chiefs needs to be put into account fro purposes of reasonable transparency. Various leaders have always given respect to the people of Karamoja.Sir Edward Muteesa even went on to have his presidential salary devoted to the development of Karamoja. Milton Obote wasn't on bad terms with the Karamojong. Idi Amin Dada didn't make big mistakes there.Same thing with Godfrey Binaisa,Yusuf Lule, Tito Okello, and Paulo Muwanga.Prior to that there was the Great Benedicto Kiwanuka who was so much loved by the people of Karamoja who gave him two of their three seats in the 1961 general election. It now surprises to learn all those very bad things actually going on in Karamoja.Let's pray for the best for this seemingly neglected people.
