{UAH} Sustainment
Sustainment
The war in Ukraine has brought to the forefront the importance of a coherent sustainment plan for the battlefield. Seemingly on every media outlet there were countless abandoned Russian Army vehicles strewn about the Ukrainian countryside. Currently we are seeing images of Russian troops looting and even stealing chickens. These are all results from a disastrous lack of a salient sustainment plan.
In the offense, troops are limited in advance when they are no longer able to be supplied with materials necessary for the completion of their mission. Establishing a supply chain to and from the Front Line of Troops (FLOT) allows for a number of tasks to be accomplished. Some of those tasks include, but are not not limited to: ammunition, fuel, and equipment resupply; medical evacuation; civil relief.
A supply chain is nothing without effective security and all materiel movement should be considerably guarded. Consider employing air defense assets, if available (MANPADS), with the security element. Allowing freedom of maneuver of your supply chain can and will pay considerable dividends.
