{UAH} EASTER MASS IN ROME TO ATTRACT 250.000 PILGRIMS
Part of the 60.00-strong crowd at Rome's Palm Sunday ceremony in Rome, Sunday 10/04/2022. A quarter of a million pilgrims are expected this coming Easter Sunday
The Holy Week opened last Sunday ( 10/04/2022 ) which was Palm Sunday, a day which commemorates Christ's entry in Jerusalem where he was welcomed by enthusiastic crowds waving palms and other branches of trees to signal this triumphant welcome. It ends next Sunday ( 17/04/2022) which will mark Easter Day, the Resurrection of Christ. Today Friday marks Christ's crucifixion and death.....Many ceremonies are going on throughout Christendom.
Palm Sunday was very well observed in every corner of the globe. In Rome Pope Francis celebrated Mass before an estimated 60.000 pilgrims assembled in St Peter's Square.
In Uganda the recordings we saw on the same ceremonies in Lubaga Cathedral and Gulu really proved how Africa very warmly cheers Palm Sunday! The Gulu mass was attended by H.E. Kyagulanyi accompanied by sharp diplomatist, politician and intellectual, Ambassador Dr Olara
Otunnu and other notable Acholi statesmen. Everything was fantastic! Tomorrow, Saturday ( Holy Saturday ) will mark (in the Catholic Church) the famous Easter Vigil which closes the Lentine period (of fasting) and inaugurates Easter. The important liturgical characteristic of this day is the Easter Vigil Mass in which adults / catechumen are received in Baptism. In France 4.300 adults are going to be baptized during that night Mass. And elsewhere in the world thousands will receive the Sacrament of Baptism. Africa will again break all records with almost a million people who will be baptized during that night. Some parishes will baptize between 400 and 1.000 people! A priest from Burundi told some of us that his tiny parish is going to receive 319 catechumens in baptism. Africa is moving with a new vigour! Over 40.000 adults will be baptized in the USA.
Then Easter Sunday will crown it all with special Pontifical Masses everywhere. In Rome, where good weather is expected to grace the great occasion, over 250.000 pilgrims will turn up in St Peter's Square for the Holy Pontifical Mass celebrated by Pope Francis who will also deliver a special Easter message to the world followed by his blessing. TV is expected to relay the ceremony to a billion people all over the world.
Happy Easter to the entire UAH fraternity!
