{UAH} Salva Kiir and his deputy, Riek Machar, have agreed to resume talks
After weeks of escalating conflict, South Sudan's President Salva Kiir and his deputy, Riek Machar, have agreed to resume talks about integrating their rival forces under a unified command. In 2018, Kiir and Machar's forces signed a peace agreement to end five years of civil war and share power. But implementation has been slow, and forces loyal to the two men have clashed frequently. Why have the leaders of Africa's youngest nation thus far failed to fully embrace peace?
