{UAH} How does the government read WhatsApp conversations when WhatsApp claims they are encrypted
Three possibilities from the top of my head
- the encryption is not as good as WhatsApp claims, either using a weak algorithm or a lib with a (deliberate?) mistake. Be aware that WA does not give us any information about the encryption. Additionally we have to believe that there is end to end encryption. Just ask yourself why aren't we allowed to generate our own keys? Is there a central key?
- It wouldn't be the first time that the US gouvernment issues a gag order towards a company, so that they have to deliver the keys and are not allowed to talk about it. Since WA doesn't appear to be caring greatly about cilvil liberties they just coud have accepted it as long as they make money.
- There could be a back door in WA known to the gouvernment, alternativly they could use a troian on your smartphone.
There are likely more ways to do it, just ask your someone from EFF or a similar group
