BE THANKFUL TO GOD WITH THE LIFE YOU'VE GOT
By Abbey Kibirige Semuwemba
We all think of royalty, singers, popular politicians or movie stars as leading glamorous lives. When you critically think about it, it is a facade they create, because they have exactly the same issues as we, but with additional pressures of worrying what the public will think. In some ways they are more miserable than us. When we realize this, we can start being happy with our lot in life.
Life isn't all about too much money, too many followers, too many cars, power, or posh houses. Unfortunately, its sometimes difficult to convince someone of this who doesn't have them, or still at the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
There are lots of musicians and politicians, especially in developing countries, that find themselves in debts because they tried to live a life that was beyond their means.
Its important that we all avoid living a life that only gives satisfaction to others instead of you who is living this life. For instance, don't buy a car if you think you can live without it; don't build a 4-bedroom house if you think you can only afford a two-bedroomed house; don't take photos with European leaders and celebrities (which most of them don't mind anyway even you meet them on streets), if you think it will bring added pressure and expectations on you, e.t.c
A lot of poor or averagely earning people are happier than wealthy people. God always places people where they are supposed to be, and there's no need to fight it.
Let me give you a classic example; as far back as the mid-1950s, Jacqueline Kennedy was ready to divorce John F. Kennedy over his many mistresses, said the new unauthorized biography 'Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis: A Life Beyond Her Wildest Dreams.'
The former US president had acute medical issues and was taking a ton of medicine. He gave his wife STDs regularly. His father had to pay her a $1m to stay with him.
However, it's been said that the years of JFK's presidency (1961–1963) were the best for their marriage. Some months before his death, their premature infant died, and their grief bought them closer than ever.
That's why I think that had he lived to do a second term, it would have been a great blessing as I think he had the intelligence and ability to do many things that would have made many things better.
