{UAH} 1980 and 1996 elections!

The 1980 elections were held under the Parliamentary System where the party with simple  majority formed government

Dr. Milton Obote was elected MP for Lira Municipality not president of Uganda🙆🏾‍♂️

The allegations of election rigging need better evidence than many present

Mr. Kikira remained alive after the coup. I have no idea whether he still lives. But no one has ever interviewed him to get the facts of the election rigging. 

After the overthrow of the Obote 2 regime, I expected DP to put out the evidence that Ssemwogerere claimed was compiled  in the *"Black Book"*

When I joined him as Vice National Chair for his campaign team in 1996 after UPC agreed to support his candidacy, I requested him to give a list of all DP chairmen in the regions of Busoga, Bukedi, Bugisu, Teso, and Karamoja that fell under my docket

He had nothing to give me. He referred me to Roman Catholic Convents in some places.😇

At the end of the elections, Ssemwigerere had lost badly in Buganda including his home voting station, to which M7 made fun

He won soundly in the UPC strongholds but lost the national election. 

*What dies that reveal?*

 

During his campaign in Bukedi, Bugisu and Teso, his entire team of 8 stayed at my village residence for a week

While in Busoga his team stayed with the late Patrick Mwondha of UPC. There was no DP stalwart to host him in his perceived strong base in Busoga 

To-date he has passed on without tabling evidence of the election rigging in 1980 and 1996

Before voting day, I travelled to Kabusu to collect agent appointment letters and money to facilitate their food, soda and transport 

DP had nothing to contribute. UPC gave me 1,900,000/- as it's contribution to support Ssemwogerere

At Kabusu, based on the crowds that turned up during the tour of the traditionally UPC areas, Ssemwogerere was sure of a win. He took Buganda for granted as Museveni made it his core campaign ground

At Kabusu I was initially locked out of a meeting where the DP was discussing who will be in the cabinet

It took the intervention of Mrs Miria Mutagamba, the chair of the campaign team to let me into the meeting but the subject changed 

After the 1996 poor performance, I expected Ssemwogerere to convene a meeting of his campaign team to review  our failure to win

No such meeting took place

Ssemwogerere never invited me to his house despite my good performance

During the campaign, Mrs Mutagamba incurred a telephone bill of over 12 million shillings

The DP never released a coin to clear the bill

Under threat of being taken to Luzira, I helped her clear 6 million

M7 called her and cleared the balance.

She publicly denounced DP and was made minister in NRM

Many people post about elections in Uganda from hearsay but I have been deep in it 

I know a lot that will come out at the right time
