{UAH} WHAT HAPPENED TO THE " TAJJA GASIMA " NONSENSE?

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE " TAJJA GASIMA " NONSENSE?

By Abbey Kibirige Semuwemba

I have been watching a video showing Kyagulanyi  aka Bobi Wine, promising Ugandans that Museveni wouldn't drill Uganda oil, " Museveni nebwanazina esawa makumi abiri, tajja gasima....". I think he uttered these statements in September last year, at a time when the European parliament had denied the Uganda government funds to develop the oil and gas sector.

The EU parliament cited environmental concerns and human rights abuses as economic racism.

There are so many videos showing him making ridiculous statements, but for some unknown reasons, he seems to be getting away with it. He lies about other opposition leaders,  he lies about the current government, and he also lies about himself by calling himself " the president of Uganda."

Knowingly misleading Ugandans has now effectively been accepted in our opposition politics. Bobi has normalised more professional misconduct and danced and sang his way into people's hearts.

The MPs who support him are similarly excusing and normalising his misconduct. The people who support him are similarly excusing and normalising his misconduct.

His misconduct may encourage future opposition leaders  to do the same.

Regrettably, he has left a skid mark on the fabric of Uganda politics. The country needs another opposition leader to remove Bobi's stains, but it will be difficult to remove him since the state, too, is seemingly protecting him. You can't take Bobi to court and win even if you " dance for 20 hours "( to borrow his words).

Judging from the way he was used to destroy Besigye, this is certainly going to be a long process. Credibility, trust, and reputation need a long time to rebuild. Sadly, they can be undermined very quickly.

Bobi's MO is basically to make unfounded statements, excite people,  divide people, and then move on. For the record,  Uganda has reportedly started drilling its oil.
