Let me present the case of my cousin Betty. Like me, Betty grew up on a large council estate in Sunderland. Like me she went to a comprehensive school.
When she was 16 she met Mick. They married when she was 20 and lived in a flat on the large council estate. Mick was a rather clever chap and had set up a business buying vintage cars, refurbishing them and selling them on. He did really well and within 10 years he had a large second hand car dealership and made a lot of money. Mick and Betty bought a very expensive house on the coast, Mick's businesses continued to expand, he achieved millionaire status and they sent their three children to fee paying schools.
My cousin Betty refers to people who live on council estates as "council scum" and thinks that children who attend state schools are all future criminals. She has utterly disconnected herself from her past and only identifies as Betty, the wife of multi millionaire Mick.
In a nutshell that is what happened to Patel and Bravermann.
