CNN’s Head Honcho is Out

Just over a year ago, Chris Licht made headlines when he joined CNN as the network’s new CEO. Licht made it clear that he’d be switching things up, mainly aiming to restore CNN’s reputation amongst the general public.

Part of this work involved changing the news anchors to some extent and making tough decisions about who should stay and go. Licht made it clear that he wanted CNN to be more fair and balanced, rather than an openly left-wing network with a transparent agenda.

However, after less than 20 months on the job, Licht is officially out as the new CEO, according to the New York Post.

What Happened?

Licht’s departure from CNN follows after a blistered piece in The Atlantic came out, where various folks linked to CNN made it clear they wanted him gone.

The corporate parent of CNN, Warner Bros. Discovery, since revealed that Licht is exiting the network and will be replaced by various other higher-ups. In this announcement, the outgoing head honcho was praised for his hard work and his dedication to making CNN better.

While overseeing CNN, Licht found himself increasingly under attack from leftists who didn’t appreciate what he was doing with the network. Left-wing critics regularly accused him of trying to make CNN “Fox News Lite” or otherwise less favorable to Democratic viewers.

Lots of Turbulence For CNN

There is no denying that things have been interesting for CNN in recent years. Before news of Licht’s departure broke, network staffers Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo, and John Griffin were all forced out.

In the case of Griffin, his exit came due to serious legal charges he was facing for inappropriate sexual contact with a mother and her underage daughter.

At the rate things are going, what comes next for CNN is just about anyone’s guess.
