{UAH} PRESIDENT IDI AMIN DESIGNATED BEN KIWANUKA TO BE PRESIDENT.

Initially, President Yoweri Museveni was supposed to be the Chief Guest at this years Ben Kiwanuka Memorial lecture on this 51st anniversary of the heinous broad daylight abduction of the late Chief Justice. Suddenly Museveni did not appear, possibly after we requested him to at least do one thing publicly during this years function: Tell the victims family where Ben Kiwanuka's remains are so that the people of Uganda can at least give him a proper state funeral.
On January 22nd, 1973, exactly four months after the heinous abduction, the police investigation found Museveni in Mbale driving the very vehicle whose registration number UUU 171 had been reported by eyewitnesses at the scene of the abduction.
The suspect fled arrest that day, and he says he hid in a nearby forest.
At the time of Ben Kiwanuka's dissappearance, President Idi Amin was making efforts to return Uganda to civilian rule as promised, and Amin had himself designated Ben Kiwanuka to be the interim civilian president who would then organize elections. An altercation ensued between Ben Kiwanuka and Foreign Minister Wanume Kibedi.
Kibedi wanted to use his kinship with Amin to be declared the interim civilian president instead. Kibedi's sister was Amin's wife First Lady Mama Maryam Amin.
Years later during the 1988 Commission of inquiry, Ben Kiwanuka's wife would confirm the infighting between her husband and Kibedi. She revealed that two weeks before the Chief Justice disappeared, she heard him exchanging strong words with Wanume Kibedi on telephone.
Kibedi was calling Kiwanuka to
his home at night, and the two officials were having a heated argument. Kibedi wanted to be the one who would become president.
When Amin heard about the quarrel, he summoned the two and made it clear that as Chief Justice, Ben Kiwanuka was the most senior civilian official in the hierarchy of the government, and therefore would be the one taking over from the military and organizing elections.
Unfortunately. Uganda was attacked by Tanzania during those preparations, Ben Kiwanuka abducted two days after the invasion, and Wanume Kibedi fled to exile when suspicions of the abduction first came his way because of his known animosity against Ben Kiwanuka.
It is in this situation that the elders in Rukungiri drafted a petition requesting that President Idi Amin be declared Life President so as to prevent Obote's brutal return to power.
Meanwhile in the link below is the verbatim video version of the 2022 public letter that I wrote to the entire Parliament of Uganda, every single MP, and to all government ministers, regarding the Ben Kiwanuka tragedy.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament confirmed receipt of the letter by email.
Today therefore, I appeal to the Democratic Party members (the political party founded by the deceased), and its current head Hon. Nobert Mao (who also dodged this years memorial), and the entire Justice system, to not just stand around like onlookers, but instead mobilize, together with the people of Uganda and the Ugandan media in abidance to the values that all participants were talking about during the memorial, and in the quest for justice for the deceased, so as to seek all the answers that for decades the people of Uganda and the victims family have been waiting for so as to simply and finally get precious closure.
The question of VolksWagen number UUU 171 remains answerable only by Museveni who was found driving that very vehicle on 22nd January 1973, and there is no statute of limitations for the crime of abduction, possible murder and/or manslaughter.
Therefore, the Judiciary and Police have their duty before themselves, and I am willing to appear, even alongside the President, before all relevant state institutions for any official queries related to this case.
Thank you!
Signed: Lumumba Amin
