Subject: {UAH} Canada elects first Black Speaker
Folks,
The Swahili saying that ngurume ina karagwa na mafuta yake - pork is fried in its own fat - is apt in the US House of Representatives.
They are searing in their own jingoistic, parochialism. Meanwhile, in Edward Mulindwa's 'hood, Canada has elected its first Black Speaker of the House of Commons.
Taken together, these two developments appear as diametric as day and night. Yet, they mesh neatly in the overall reading of politics: ousting a Speaker in an open, Floor vote is one of the highest measurable pieces of evidence of democracy.
Meanwhile, by electing a Black man as Speaker, Canadian MPs are proving that Canada is politically mature enough to accommodate Minorities in the highest echelons of leadership. So, both the demise of Kevin McCarthy in US and the rise of Greg Fergus in Canada are worth celebrating.
