Ocasio-Cortez Goes SHARPLY For Biden After Flip-Flop On Border Wall

In a recent turn of events, New York's Democratic Socialist Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has sharply criticized President Joe Biden's decision to resume construction of the border wall, a move she deems "cruel."

This comes in the wake of the Biden administration's announcement of a policy reversal that would bypass environmental regulations to continue a project initiated under the Trump administration.

Ocasio-Cortez expressed her disapproval in a statement released on Thursday. "The Biden administration was not required to expand construction of the border wall - and they certainly were not required to waive several environmental laws to expedite the building," she stated, calling on the President to take accountability for his decision and reverse it.

The New York representative further argued that the wall would not deter individuals fleeing poverty and violence from seeking refuge in the United States. "You do not risk your life or your children's lives going through the Darién Gap or traversing hundreds of miles of desert if you have any other options. Walls only serve to push migrants into more remote areas, increasing their chances of death. She also accused the U.S. of contributing to the destabilization in South America. Meanwhile, President Biden offered a seemingly contradictory explanation for his decision, which was at odds with the statement made by his Homeland Security secretary.

"The border wall — the money was appropriated for the border wall. I tried to get to them to reappropriate it, to redirect that money. They didn't. They wouldn't," Biden explained to reporters. "And in the meantime, there's nothing under the law other than they have to use the money for what it was appropriated. I can't stop that."

The Biden administration has faced severe criticism over an escalating immigration crisis, which critics argue has been exacerbated by its policies. During his 2020 presidential campaign, Biden had pledged to halt construction on the border wall, a promise that now appears to have been broken.
