"Age Of The Samurai" is a must watch series if you want to know how Japan came to be.

A vivid example of "Last Man Standing" adage. Kims, families, royal servants, etc all at the necks of each other. Conspiracies swirl, coalitions fall apart, nutty rulers emerge among several clans and tribes. And swift justices are displayed - by the swords. 

The documentary is brutal, stomach-churning.and riveting.
