Four US bases in Syria targeted in past hours: Sources to Al Mayadeen

Sources told Al Mayadeen on Friday that Resistance factions targeted four US occupation bases in Syria in the past hours.

The sources mentioned that the targeting included al-Omar and Conoco bases in the countryside of Deir Ezzor, in addition to the Kharab al-Jir and al-Shadadi bases in the countryside of al-Hasakah.

According to the sources, the attacks were carried out with a large number of rocket shells, the majority of which successfully reached their targets despite the defensive measures recently taken by US occupation forces in Syria.

Furthermore, the sources highlighted that this marks the first time that this number of bases has been targeted in such a short period.

Earlier on Friday, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq said it targeted the US occupation bases in the Conoco field in Syria and Ain al-Assad in western Iraq with missile strikes, hitting its targets directly.

In a statement, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq stated, "In response to the crimes committed by the enemy against our people in Gaza, the fighters of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted the American occupation base in Conoco oil field in Syria with a missile barrage, hitting its targets directly."

In a subsequent statement, the Resistance announced the targeting of the US occupation base Ain al-Assad in western Iraq with a missile barrage, confirming a direct hit on its target.

Al Mayadeen's correspondent in Baghdad also reported that the Islamic Resistance targeted US forces at Erbil Airport with a number of suicide drones.

Our correspondent had reported that several rockets were launched at Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses the US Embassy, during the early hours of Friday.

In further detail, an Iraqi military official said as quoted by AFP that three rockets targeted the vicinity of the US Embassy located in the Green Zone in Baghdad on Friday morning.

"A multi-rocket attack was launched at US and Coalition forces in the vicinity of Union III and the Baghdad embassy complex" without causing any reported casualties or damage, a US official said.  https://twitter.com/i/status/1732947765011915094

 

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

In a statement, the US embassy said "two salvoes of rockets" were fired at the mission compound at around 4:15 am (0115 GMT).

"Indications are the attacks were initiated by Iran-aligned militias," said a US spokesperson.

The spokesperson called on Iraq's government to protect diplomats, coalition partners, and facilities, adding, "We reiterate that we reserve the right to self-defence and to protect our personnel anywhere in the world."

The official verified the activation of alarms and reported hearing what is presumed to be the sound of impacts near the US Embassy complex and the nearby Forward Operating Base Union III, accommodating forces from the international coalition.

The official, who preferred not to disclose his identity, stated, "We are awaiting official information about the nature of the attack."

Resistance factions in Iraq have previously said they consider US occupation bases in the region as legitimate targets, as the US has offered "Israel" its "unwavering support", enabling it to carry out its massacres against the Palestinian people, by offering it the necessary military, financial, and diplomatic backing.
