{UAH} THE LEGEND OF ARAAP CHEMIRMIR
This legends story is part true, part mythology. Nobody really knows what caused his most wanted status during the colonial period. The most famous and interesting of narratives goes thus:
Arap Chemirmir was the man behind the story of 'Ndilik ab Arap Mbugu'. Mbugu, was a local nickname for a white settler who owned a large farm at Miti Moja near Sogomo market, in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
The folklore goes, Chemirmir while shelling Maize around Chepkoilel area, was confronted by a mzungu ngetet, the son of Mbugu, who beat him up.
Chemirmir got so irritated and said
" Koipiiro Ngeteet ane Muren nekiowe tuum Po Keny?", (How can a whole man like me be harrased by a ngetai?).
He clicked several times, made a war cry, and in return grabbed the mzungu Ngetet and dropped him, head first into the shelling machine (Shellait), killing him on the spot.
He then fled leading to this wild west poster we see today.
He passed on in 2022 at the age of 128.
