{UAH} Okot P'Bitek' failed DPhil (PhD) thesis

Okot P'Bitek' failed DPhil (PhD)  thesis available  at  Tylor  Library  at the University  of Oxford. The examiners who included the famous Prof E.E. Evans-Pritchard
had expected  P'Bitek to write  his work from European  lenses  I.e from the way  Whites viewed African  religion , culture and spirituality, but P'Bitek  took a radical African  view of how he undestood his own people and their  way of life.

They  gave him a chance  to make  the corrections,  but P'Bitek resubmitted  his work without  making   the recommended changes because  he didn't  want to corrupt  the way he viewed  the Luo people.

His views were that Luo were one people  only separated  by  colonial boundaries  and   migration.  Furthermore  he hated  the use of  the word "tribe" "savage" and "natives". Consequently,  the  examiners  failed him with  no right  to supplicate. But the truth is that P'Bitek failed willingly. He still became  one of Africa's greatest poets. His later  views were that no African  should  study  social  anthropology because  it is influenced  by Eurocentrism.
