{UAH} The used to be fancy Jobs that now suck

1. Airline pilot: Gone are the "glamour days" of the 1970s. Today, it means layovers in crappy hotels, relatively low pay, burnout, tight schedules, and downsizing.
2. College professor: When I was growing up, this career conjured up images of wearing a tweed jacket in a pleasant, book-filled, paneled room while discussing Proust. Today, it means no job security, political correctness run utterly amok, constant monitoring of everything you say and do, and dealing with all kinds of unstable, unpleasant, half-mad people.
3. Lawyer: forget L.A. Law or Boston Legal, etc. Reality is closer to this: working alone in a cubicle office, hunched over the keyboard or enormous stacks of dull documents all day, dealing with endless paperwork, aggressive people coming at you at all sides. You will spend much of your time eating crappy rubber chicken and praying you haven't overlooked some persnickety detail or obscure statute that will destroy your case.
4. Working in a bookstore. If you think it means being erudite and reading books all day, then you are just dumb enough to work in one.
