In a recent development, the United States Secret Service (USSS) Director Kimberly Cheatle has been urged to step down from her position by both the Chairman and ranking member of the House Oversight Committee.

The call for resignation came in the wake of a hearing held on Monday, seeking accountability for a significant operational failure under Cheatle's leadership.

According to The Post Millennial, a letter jointly signed by Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) stated, "On July 13, 2024, the United States Secret Service under your leadership failed to protect former President Donald Trump from an assassination attempt that took the life of Corey Comperatore and seriously injured at least two other people."

The letter further criticized Cheatle's inability to provide satisfactory answers during the hearing, stating, "Today, you failed to provide answers to basic questions regarding that stunning operational failure and to reassure the American people that the Secret Service has learned its lessons and begun to correct its systemic blunders and failures."

Her refusal to disclose the number of USSS agents present at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and her assertion that she was the best person to lead the USSS at this time, were met with skepticism and disapproval.

In a striking moment during the hearing, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) asked Cheatle if she would utilize the time during Mace's question to pen a resignation letter. This call for Cheatle's resignation is not an isolated incident, as several congressmen from both sides of the aisle have expressed similar sentiments.
