In a bid to bolster the faltering campaign of President Joe Biden, renowned late-night comedy icon David Letterman is slated to headline a fundraiser.

The event, which is set to take place in Martha's Vineyard, will also feature Hawaii Governor Josh Green. The fundraiser is scheduled for July 29, marking one of ten such events planned for the final ten days of the month.

According to the Daily Mail, Letterman, a long-standing supporter of Biden since his vice-presidential tenure, is the event's "special guest." His involvement underscores the determination of the president's campaign to press on, despite mounting pressure for Biden to withdraw, including from erstwhile backers.

Governor Green, in a text message to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, confirmed the fundraiser, expressing unwavering support for the president and the Democratic Party. He stated, "We support the President, the First Lady, the VP and the Democratic Party, in good and tough times because he has been there for us as a family and a state." However, he declined to provide further details when approached by The Associated Press, which first broke the news of the upcoming event.

On the same day, President Biden, who is currently recuperating from COVID-19 at his Rehoboth Beach home in Delaware, called for unity within his party. He also sought to redirect attention towards his Republican adversary, Donald Trump, and his own presidential plans. In a written statement, Biden expressed his eagerness to return to the campaign trail to challenge Trump's assertions and to advocate for his own record and vision for America. He emphasized, "One where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for everyone."

Despite a lackluster debate performance and a significant departure of Democratic donors, Biden remains steadfast in his belief that he is the best Democratic candidate to defeat the GOP frontrunner. Governor Green echoed this sentiment, stating, "I think the president stays in this race unless he feels that it is not winnable, or he feels that he has to hear other voices in his inner circle that he shouldn't run."

However, the decision to remain in the race ultimately rests with Biden, whose campaign has been in a downward spiral since last month's debate. In the aftermath, several prominent Hollywood figures who had previously supported Biden have shifted their stance on his potential second term. George Clooney, a long-time Biden supporter, penned a critical op-ed in the New York Times, expressing his disappointment with the president's recent performance.

Despite this, some celebrities, including Letterman, have remained loyal to Biden. The recently retired talk show host will be joined by other A-listers such as Jack Black and Barbra Streisand. These stars were present at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles when Biden took the stage on June 16, as were superstars Elton John and Katy Perry a few weeks later in New York City after the debate.

Meanwhile, the Biden campaign has faced criticism from other celebrities, such as Cardi B, who expressed her sense of betrayal by the Biden administration. The rapper, along with others like Duane 'The Rock' Johnson, announced they would not participate in the upcoming election following the president's lackluster debate performance.

The fundraiser on June 16 was also attended by former President Barack Obama, who has since emerged as the campaign's top surrogate. Obama has defended Biden against Trump in the wake of the recent debate. However, videos from the end of the fundraiser circulated on social media, scrutinizing Biden's physical and mental abilities. The White House has dismissed these videos as heavily edited and created in bad faith.
