A St. Louis delegate for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and member of a police oversight board found himself on the wrong side of the law during a recent riot in Ferguson, Missouri.

The protest, held in memory of Michael Brown, took a violent turn, leaving a police officer critically injured.

As reported by The Post Millennial, Keith Rose, a St. Louis alternate delegate to the DNC and a member of the City of St. Louis’ Civilian Oversight Board, was arrested during the riot. The board on which Rose serves is tasked with reviewing allegations of police misconduct. Following his arrest, Rose has stepped down from his position as an alternate DNC delegate.  https://twitter.com/i/status/1824072052510253317

Rose stands accused of damaging a metal gate outside the Ferguson Police Department during the riot. He now faces charges of first-degree property damage and was released on a $500 bond. Amid the chaos, parts of the gate were damaged and some pieces stolen. The Missouri Democratic Party confirmed Rose's decision to step down, stating, "Keith Rose has decided to voluntarily withdraw as an uncommitted alternate delegate to the DNC.”

The protest marked the 10th anniversary of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. During the protest, Ferguson Police Officer Travis Brown was violently knocked over by 28-year-old Elijah Gantt. The incident, captured on CCTV and a police officer's bodycam, shows Gantt running down Officer Brown, whose head struck the concrete with force. Officer Brown was left unconscious, with Gantt lying on his chest, before other officers arrived to apprehend Gantt.  https://twitter.com/i/status/1824078616285581385

Officer Brown, a father to young twin daughters, suffered a severe brain injury from the impact and was hospitalized. Two other officers were also injured during the riot and received treatment at the scene.

Police Chief Troy Doyle expressed his dismay at the incident during a press conference. "I think it’s a clear indication that my officer was charged and was hit violently by this individual. If you look at the video, the officer is standing up, waiting to catch this guy. This guy tackled my guy like he’s a football player," Doyle said. The footage elicited gasps from the press conference attendees, according to Fox News.

Gantt, already facing assault charges, now faces an additional charge for allegedly kicking another officer in the head. He remains in jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

Officer Brown, part of a wave of black officers hired since 2014, was described by Doyle as someone who "wanted to be part of the change" and "make an impact in our community." Doyle added, "He’s the type of officer that we want in our community. And what happens? He gets assaulted. I had to look his mother in the eye and tell her what happened to her son. I’m never going to do that again, I promise you that."

Officer Brown's family released a statement expressing their hope and faith in his recovery. They described him as "more than a police officer; he is a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. A man of strong faith, his heart is as big as his smile, and his positive energy is truly contagious. TJ is also an athlete, an adventurer, a lover of movies, and so much more. We know he is determined to continue living life to the fullest once he has recovered."
