Left Eats Its Own: DNC’s Bold Tactic To Erase Competition In Crucial Battleground

In a recent development, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has taken steps to remove a competitor from the presidential election ballot in Wisconsin, a crucial swing state.

The DNC has petitioned the Wisconsin Supreme Court to prevent Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and her running mate, Butch Ware, from appearing on the state's November ballot.

According to The Federalist, the DNC is urging the state's high court to take immediate action in deciding the case, bypassing the usual initial filing in lower courts. The state's Supreme Court, which leans towards the left, has agreed to consider the DNC's request, with a ruling expected as early as Monday.

The petitioner in this legal action is Doug Strange, the DNC's deputy Operations director in Wisconsin. The lawsuit is against the Wisconsin Elections Commission, its administrator and commissioners, and the Wisconsin Green Party. It is somewhat perplexing that Strange and the DNC would file such a petition against a fellow leftist political party, especially when the Democratic Party's top leaders are currently rallying around a "freedom" message in Chicago, urging "Americans to defend democracy one more time."

The Wisconsin Elections Commission, which has had its fair share of election integrity issues, previously dismissed a complaint from the Democrats on a technicality. The complaint asserted that the Green Party ticket couldn't be on the November ballot because there are no Green Party members holding state offices. https://x.com/i/status/1826097949320888538

The petition cites a statute that outlines the requirements for presidential electors, stating they must be "[c]andidates for the senate and assembly nominated by each political party at the primary"; … "the state officers" of each political party; and "the holdover state senators of each political party[.]"

The petition argues, "It has long been clear that the Wisconsin Green Party had no affiliated individuals in the latter two categories eligible to nominate presidential electors."

Rick Esenberg, president and general counsel of the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL), has called for the Supreme Court to dismiss the Democrats' latest political maneuver.

"This is a last-ditch effort by a political party operative to disenfranchise the votes of tens of thousands of Wisconsinites," Esenberg stated on Thursday, after the state Supreme Court agreed to consider the DNC's petition.

WILL has announced plans to file a brief with the court arguing that the petition "advances a new reading" of Wisconsin statute "that would effectively prevent any small or new party from getting on the Presidential Ballot."

The DNC has previously attempted to block the Green Party from the ballot in Wisconsin and other battleground states. In 2020, a Wisconsin Democratic Party attorney known for legal attacks on Republicans challenged Green Party petitions for Angela Walker, the running mate of the Greens' presidential candidate Howie Hawkins. Walker had changed her address during the signature-collection period, which the Democrats argued invalidated some of the petitions.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission, split evenly between Democrats and Republicans, deadlocked 3-3 at a hearing that the Green Party's Michael Rubin described as having "all the trappings of a kangaroo court."

"The attorney for the Democratic challenger huddled with the Democratic chair of the Elections Commission to restrict the testimony of Green Party attorneys," Rubin wrote in a column titled, "Democratic Party dirty tricks against the Greens," published shortly after the disputed 2020 election.

The challenge eventually reached the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which ruled to keep the Greens off the ballot. Despite conservatives holding a 4-3 majority at the time, Justice Brian Hagedorn sided with the Democrats, arguing that the Green Party ticket took too long to challenge the commission's default decision and that it was too late in the campaign season to disrupt the status quo.

"Even if we would ultimately determine that the petitioners' claims are meritorious, given their delay in asserting their rights, we would be unable to provide meaningful relief without completely upsetting the election," the majority wrote in the opinion.

The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty argues that the same issue applies to the Democrats' latest ballot challenge against the Green Party. The conservative law firm asserts that there are numerous procedural issues with the case.

"A last-minute ruling, not based in law, from the Wisconsin Supreme Court in favor of the DNC would severely damage the faith and trust every day Wisconsinites put in their elections," Esenberg of WILL stated.

However, a ruling in favor of the Democrats, removing the Green Party from the Wisconsin ballot, would undoubtedly benefit the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her party.

In the 2016 presidential election, Stein garnered over 31,000 votes in Wisconsin. While this was only a small fraction of the total votes, Democrats argued that these votes could have gone to their candidate, Hillary Clinton, who lost Wisconsin to Trump by approximately 21,000 votes. The upcoming 2024 election is expected to be just as fiercely contested, potentially decided once again in swing states by a small percentage of votes.

This is why the Democrats, who claim to be the defenders of democracy, have made numerous attempts to keep Trump and other leftists off the ballot, effectively disenfranchising millions of voters. These efforts are not limited to Wisconsin but are being carried out nationwide.

Doug Strange, the Democratic operative, has also filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission to prevent leftist Cornel West from appearing on the Wisconsin presidential ballot. Last week, Democrats in Michigan removed West from the presidential contest. West has managed to survive a similar challenge in Maine, while he continues to fight to stay on the ballot in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and several other states.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who switched to running as an Independent after feeling betrayed by the Democratic Party, has also faced a campaign by the Democrats to deny him access to state ballots.

Stein and the Green Party have faced similar battles, up against a well-funded Democratic Party machine determined to eliminate competition. The Greens recently survived a legal challenge in Nevada, a swing state, when a judge ruled against the state's Democrats.

"The Democratic Party has not met its burden of demonstrating that the petition is clearly invalid because it has not produced sufficient evidence to show that the petition has less than the required number of valid signatures in any petition district," Carson City District Court Judge Kristin Luis wrote in her ruling.

However, the Green Party may face an uphill battle in Wisconsin, where the liberal majority has been criticized for being a rubber stamp for the Democratic Party.

Multiple news outlets are reporting that RFK Jr. will announce his withdrawal from the race and his endorsement of Trump as early as today. His attorney, Larry Otter, told WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that Kennedy cannot compete with the Democrats' powerful political machine.

"It's a lot easier to eliminate some of your competition by knocking them off the ballot than having to spend a ton of money campaigning against them, or doing efforts in a campaign to get to their supporters," Otter stated.
