Tim Walz Faces New Accusation of Misrepresenting Himself

Aletter from 2006 has recently resurfaced, raising questions about the credibility of the presented credentials of Minnesota Governor and Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz.

Knewz.com has learned that the letter refutes Walz’s claims of having received an accolade from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce in 1993.

Walz made the aforementioned claim when he ran for Congress in Minnesota for the first time.

His campaign website mentioned at the time that his work with the business community earned him an award from the organization.

However, in a letter addressed to Walz on November 1, 2006, the President of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, Barry L. Kennedy, contested his claims.

“We researched this matter and can confirm that you have not been the recipient of any award from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce,” the letter read, according to reports.

“I am not going to draw a conclusion about your intentions by including this line in your biography. However, we respectfully request that you remove any reference to our organization as it could be considered an endorsement of your candidacy.”

“It should be pointed out, however, that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed your opponent, Congressman Gil Gutknecht, for his support of small business issues,” the letter further mentioned.

Following this development, his campaign website was updated to clarify that there had been a “typographical error” and that the website was meant to say that Walz had actually won an award from the Nebraska Junior Chamber of Commerce.

As the incident recently resurfaced, the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz Presidential campaign commented on the matter, saying that the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate “talks the way real people talk,” and hence, ends up “misspeaking” occasionally.

“Governor Walz speaks the way real people speak – openly and off the cuff. The American people appreciate that Gov. Walz tells it like it is and doesn’t talk like a politician, and they appreciate the difference between someone who occasionally misspeaks and a pathological liar like Donald Trump,” the campaign claimed.

The Chamber of Commerce fiasco came to light at a time when the Minnesota governor was already under thorough scrutiny from critics, notably over the “stolen valor” issue.

Several United States Army veterans have claimed that the 60-year-old had embellished his military career for the sake of political gain—a claim notably made by Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance as well.

While Walz has repeatedly publicly called himself a retired “Command Sergeant Major,” several others have contested his claim over the title.

Knewz.com previously reported that Walz “enlisted in the National Guard in April 1981 and served for over two decades before he retired in May 2005. His battalion received their deployment orders in July, two months after he finished his service.”

“The Minnesota National Guard stated that Walz filed his retirement papers five to seven months before his retirement – and well before his unit was notified of their upcoming deployment.”

A recent Fox News report mentioned that while Walz did get promoted to the rank of Command Sergeant Major in 2004, he did not complete the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy coursework required to retain the title in retirement.

It has been reported that his title in retirement is instead that of a master sergeant, which is one pay grade below command sergeant major.

The “ranks” issue was elaborated in a statement by Minnesota National Guard director of operations Army Lt. Col. Ryan Rossman, which said:

“He was technically a Command Sgt Major when he deployed to Europe with his battalion but to RETIRE as a CSM you have to go through a final course which he had not completed so from a benefits perspective the Army retired him as a Master Sgt (lower enlisted rank).”

“But according to National Guard records he was a Command Sgt Major technically when deployed. The lower rank was as a result of benefit requirements and a technicality,” the statement further read.

Retired Command Sergeant Major Thomas Behrends, who served in the same battalion as Walz, commented on the matter, saying, “He’s used the rank that he never achieved in order to advance his political career.

“I mean, he still says he’s a retired command sergeant major to this day, and he’s not. He uses the rank of others to make it look like he’s a better person than he is.”

“What he did, basically, was he quit. He didn’t complete that condition of doing two years after graduation, so he gets reduced to a master sergeant, and that’s what he is right now, is a retired master sergeant,” Behrends stated.

The issue sparked a wave of criticism against Harris’s running mate, with Republicans jumping at the opportunity to drag Walz through the mud.

Republican Virginia Senate candidate Hung Cao, who is also a retired Navy captain, was recently quoted as saying, “For 20 years, they let this guy go by with a lie that he deployed to Iraq, which he didn’t, and that he retired as a command sergeant major, which he did not. I mean, that’s just blatant lies.”
