JD Vance Makes A Border Visit: Harris’ Policies Under MAJOR Fire

JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, recently made a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border.

During his visit, he reiterated his belief that Vice President Kamala Harris is directly responsible for the surge in illegal border crossings, the increase in crime attributed to migrants, and the rise in fentanyl-related deaths. These assertions are part of a broader GOP strategy to link Harris to what they perceive as the current administration's shortcomings on immigration policy.

According to Newsweek, Vance's visit to the southern border in Arizona included a brief press conference with Cochise County Sheriff Bob Watkins and former border patrol leaders. The Ohio junior senator, who is currently working to regain his momentum after a challenging campaign launch, used the occasion to criticize Harris's record on border security. Vance, standing near an incomplete section of the border wall, stated, "It's hard to believe, until you see it with your own eyes, just how bad the policies of the Kamala Harris administration have been when it comes to the southern border." He attributed the unfinished state of the wall to "Harris' administration."

The vice presidential nominee continued his critique, stating, "Kamala Harris came into office making promises and she kept those promises to open the American southern border." He denounced the current administration's "terrible and idiotic" policies and expressed his belief that a Trump administration would reinstate the "remain in Mexico" and Title 42 policies, which were strict border measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vance also expressed concern over the strain on hospitals and schools due to the influx of migrants, describing the situation at the border under Harris's watch as "unbelievable." He argued, "If people can come into this country and they know they are never going to be deported, you effectively have an open border. That's what Kamala Harris promised. That's what Kamala Harris did, and Donald Trump and I promise to do the opposite."

The issue of fentanyl was also a focal point of Vance's speech. He linked the opioid-related deaths to his mother's personal struggle with addiction, which he detailed in his book. Sheriff Watkins confirmed that fentanyl is frequently smuggled through his county, stating, "In 2022, 23.7 percent of all fentanyl seized within the entire country was seized within 20 miles of where you are standing today."

Despite border security not being part of her official duties as the so-called border czar, Vance suggested that families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl should hold Harris accountable. He pledged that he and Trump would secure the border and provide federal law enforcement with the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively.

In response to the criticism from the Trump-Vance campaign, the Harris campaign has stated that she would reintroduce a bipartisan bill that was reportedly blocked by Trump. This bill would have increased funding for border security. The Vice President's recent advertisement claimed that she supports increasing the number of border patrol agents and implementing new technology to detect and prevent Fentanyl from entering the country.

Despite the ongoing controversy, encounters at the southwest border have decreased in recent months, partially due to new asylum restrictions introduced by President Biden in early June. This development raises questions about the effectiveness of the current administration's immigration policies and the future of border security in the United States.
