Walz's Minnesota: AG Cheers On Brazil's Shocking Move

Minnesota's Attorney General, Keith Ellison, who has been serving under Governor Tim Walz since 2019, recently expressed his approval when Brazil decided to clamp down on social media platform X.

Ellison, who has also held the position of deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, publicly praised the Brazilian government's censorship move on Monday.

According to The Post Millennial, Ellison's response to the Brazilian government's decision to shut down X and impose fines on those using VPNs to bypass the ban was a simple, "Obrigado Brasil!" This Portuguese phrase translates to "Thank you Brazil" in English.

Ellison and Walz share a history, with Ellison previously expressing his support for Walz when Kamala Harris selected him as her vice presidential running mate. As reported by Valley News, Ellison stated, “Tim Walz and Kamala Harris are true public servants who have spent their lives working tirelessly on behalf of the American people. Plus, they are both big-hearted, jovial people with great senses of humor and boundless optimism. I look forward to campaigning vigorously for the Harris-Walz ticket, and I cannot wait to see what Kamala and Tim accomplish on behalf of America.”

Elon Musk, the owner of X, responded to Ellison's post with a critical remark, "The Democratic Party – same one that used to defend the First Amendment –now wants to destroy the First Amendment."

In recent months, Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has been targeting Musk, X, and free speech, suspending the app's use in the country and allegedly threatening local X office employees in Brazil with arrest.

Ellison was appointed by Walz to oversee the high-profile Derek Chauvin-George Floyd case, which resulted in the conviction of the former officer on murder charges. The case, which involved Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's upper back and neck while he was on the ground, has sparked widespread debate over its validity.

Many argue that Floyd died from asphyxiation, as he claimed he couldn't breathe during the incident. However, the Chief Hennepin County Medical Examiner's autopsy report contradicts this, stating that Floyd had a lethal amount of fentanyl mixed with other drugs in his system at the time and concluded, "The autopsy revealed no physical evidence suggesting that Mr. Floyd died of asphyxiation."

During his speech at the DNC, Ellison referenced the video of Floyd prior to his death and mentioned that Walz had called him that day to discuss the matter. He was later appointed to the case. Ellison also used his speech to endorse the Harris-Walz ticket in the upcoming election, as reported by USA Today.
