{UAH} About Pro Bono in Kenya and Kagutastan

A Kenya friend to my Kikuyu baby mama and a renown Kenya writer just got evicted from his developed 3 acre pad.

Complicating matters is that his wife of 5 grownups threw the "D" file on his lap and walked away to a place unknown. She invested the whale of loan on her husband's back.

He was surprised when the bailiffs came a'crushing through the gate to inform him he hadn't been servicing his Ksh15 loan which had ballooned to Ksh22 after 8 years.

With his account frozen, he was kicked out of the pad with nothing except the clothes on his back and all of a sudden found himself homeless spending the nights on the street - a place he never dreamed of even taking a nap if under the influence.

So he calls my baby mama to narrate the fate that had befallen him and asks for help.

His wife forged his signature to get through to power of attorney in order to secure the personal loan that dude knew nothing about.

Without a penny he had given up to nature but then I asked baby mama if they don't have pro bono lawyers in Kenya. She said she highly doubted. I took matters into my hand and immediately "called" my beloved trusted good uncle, Google and loo and behold, they are there. I had her send them to the friend who happens to be an academic doctor - ie, PhD, not medical.

Soon after my thoughts turned to Kagutastan wondering if it too has pro bono lawyers. Guess what..! Kagutastan has but shockingly, ONE (Uno, Une, Moja) KATS Katende, Ssempebwa & Company Advocates (https://www.kats.co.ug/pro-bono/)

I guess all them briefcase layers who thrive on conning Baboons through the popular "Retainer" fees don't know there is big money from practicing pro bono lawyering. All of them want free quick money before disappearing kapooof out of radar.

Even Legal Aid only exists as a project in a few areas including Masaka, Kampala, Kabarole, Luzira, Jinja, Mbarara, Arua, Soroti, Gulu, Kabale, Masindi to provide only legal advice, Mediation, Negotiation, ADR, Public interest litigation.

In Kenya and Nairobi in particular, I sent the following links to lists of lawyers offering pro bono services.

We got a daiyuuuumn long way to go, Baboons.
