How will all this economic warfare likely play out, in the long run?

Badly.

Most Americans can't name a single Canadian manufactured product. That is because the vast majority of what Canada sells to the U.S. is a commodity like oil, wood, uranium, electricity, gasoline, bauxite, steel and aluminum.

The United States sells Canada manufactured goods from companies like Boeing, John Deere, Tesla, Kraft,Winnebago, Harley Davidson, General Electric (X-RAY equipment) Kraft and Hershey.

The U.S. TV networks find a ready market in Canada for their programs. Microsoft (paid version) are on millones of Canadian computers owned by Government, municipalities, corporations, universities, schools and hospitals. Google and YouTube are on most Canadian computers. Netflix and Disney+ are in most suburban homes.

Canada only has a trade surplus with the United States if you include oil sold at below-market prices because Alberta cannot get it to tidewater and export it Europe or Asia. The balance goes very much in the United States favor when services and intellectual property are included. President Trump presumably knows this.

Canada is the United States #1 supplier of raw materials and the United States #1 customer and source of tourism. It baffles the mind as to why he would start a trade war with Canada
