{UAH} RUSSIA CALLS MACRON'S NUCLEAR STATEMENT EXTREMELY CONFROTATIONAL

Friends

There are two issues that are interesting in this European circus,  and a circus so it is. {a} Usually European countries sit and wait to see what American leaders state for if things go bonkers American leaders raise up and stop it. Today we have a president in United States preaching for peace, when Macron is preaching for war. The other day Trump, who speaks with Putin said and I quote “You are lucky that I won the election for you were just about to get a world war” You wonder if Macron understood that statement. {2} Macron stood for election and he lost, what is he still doing in these meetings? Again I am just being curious here. When you respond to that question then you understand the real problem of Europe that J D Vance tried to raise the other day.

Russia Responds to Macron's Nuclear Statement: 'Extremely Confrontational'

Published Mar 06, 2025 at 5:09 AM ESTUpdated Mar 06, 2025 at 6:01 AM EST

The Kremlin called French President Emmanuel Macron's Wednesday evening speech "extremely confrontational," and Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his comments about nuclear weapons were a threat, Russian state media reported.

"The speech is really extremely confrontational," Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, told journalists in a briefing, reported RIA, a Russian state-run news agency.

Lavrov also responded to Macron at a press briefing.

"Of course, this is a threat to Russia," the foreign minister said.

Why it Matters

Macron is at the forefront of a European effort to increase the continent's military and financial support for Ukraine as the Trump Administration signals firmly that there is a time limit to American aid and the deadline for its end is sooner rather than later.

France's president has long pressed for greater European independence from the U.S. in defense and sees this as more urgent than ever after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. French nuclear weapons would play a key role in this.

He is also a central figure in the European effort to craft a durable peace plan for Ukraine that guarantees its sovereignty and security against possible future Russian aggression.

The French leader also suggested that his country—a nuclear power—could extend its nuclear umbrella to shield its allies in Europe. He warned that Europe must rearm and be ready to protect itself alone if the U.S. pulls back from the continent.

Lavrov called suggestions that Russia is preparing for war in Europe "stupid accusations" and said it is "completely clear that Russia does not need this."

Macron invited European military leaders to a meeting in Paris to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine next week. This may include deploying peacekeeping troops to the country to stop Putin from invading again.

What People Are Saying

Macron said in his speech: "Europe needs to be able to better defend itself. We need to arm ourselves more…France has maintained a nuclear deterrence since 1964. That deterrence needs to apply to all our European allies."

Russia's foreign minister Lavrov said of Macron: "If he considers us a threat, convenes a meeting of the chiefs of general staffs of European countries and Britain, says that it is necessary to use nuclear weapons, prepares to use nuclear weapons against Russia, this is, of course, a threat."

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters as he entered a European summit that Europe will rearm "quicker, smarter and more effectively" than Russia.

What Happens Next

European leaders are meeting on Thursday to discuss Ukraine, Russia, and the future of the continent's defense. More resources for Ukraine are anticipated. European military leaders will meet in Paris at Macron's invitation next week.
