Over 170 women groups have benefited from the Community Driven Development (CDD) programmes of Kampala Capital City Authority, (KCCA) the executive director, Jennifer Musisi, has said.

The groups in all the five urban divisions of Kampala are mainly women groups which secure funding from the authority under the CDD to improve their businesses. KCCA earmarked over sh800m for the programme.

Musisi told women at the Nakawa division women's day celebration that KCCA had secured funding for job stimulus package mainly to cater for the unemployed youth and women in the Central Business District.  

Musisi assured the women groups that KCCA is to ensure that funding received by the groups is well utilized, adding that they should aim at investing in more business rather than small scale projects.

 
The women demanded that KCCA gives them an open market day in all the divisions to enable them secure market for their products. Women displayed different products including crafts, locally made herbal soaps and food products.
 
KCCA, director for gender, community and production, Harriet Mudondo, said several women groups have so far benefited from the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) and other income generating activities.

Kampala City Resident Commissioner, Sam Hashaka, said KCCA will continue monitoring all the government programmes in the city in order to ensure that funds are not misused by the said beneficiaries.
 
He told councilors that they should work with the technical team in order to execute their duties.
