[UAH] RESPONSE to NAIRUBA

Ms Nairuba,
This is the 2nd time you are focusing on a non-issue. You never seem to be interested in substance. When I asked the question about "who was an eligible voter", instead of making a useful contribution to that debate, you chose to claim that the Executive and the Council had not seen the EC email.  But you know that my local chapter president, who forwarded the EC msg to me (Becky Wamala Brown) is a member of the UNAA Council leadership (Secretary) and that my local chapter treasurer, Consesa Nyakaisiki, is member of UNAA's Executive (Director of Finance)...and you are aware that both of those ladies support Mr Francis Sennoga.
Significantly, your email seems to have obscured the important issue of defining an eligible voter.  Up to today, the EC has not acknowledged receipt of my question/email. Aren't you curious (at all?!?) as to how EC will compile the voters' list?

Today, you are again focusing on a non issue.  You chose to ignore the issue of, what I consider, exorbitant and unnecessary volunteer (candidate) fees. Why is it more important to you that a member of the Executive informed me that candidate fees help pay for background checks? I never said that someone told me in their official capacity as an Executive.
Without going into who told me, I am somehow curious as why you didn't raise any concern when a member of UNAA's Executive, who is also on your team (Team Kwesiga) mentioned on this very forum that volunteer/candidate fees are levied "to help offset the cost of running background checks on prospective office seekers"??? [in April 2013]. Besides, we all know that volunteer fees are collected by UNAA's treasurer...so, it follows that the Executive knows how that money is spent!
But I do agree with you on the need for transparency and certainty.  May be you'll soon tell us why you and Mr. Brian Kwesiga's dad, who is also Uganda's Consular General in Dallas, chose Mr Elly Karuhanga as our keynote speaker.  I hope you'll also tell us how much he is "giving" UNAA and if any member of the Executive took a cut of that money for bringing in that "donor".
Finally, I also agree with you that "in this silly season, [members should] get the facts before you cast your vote, the future of the organization depends on it".
thanks

Subject: UNAALIST Background Costs

UNAA Members,

I have fielded 5 calls this morning of concerned folks given the conversation below. The main concern of these folks was why the Executive would be injecting itself in the EC process all due to the above quotes from Mr Musoke "I have been informed that the bulk of the new increased candidate fees goes to back ground checks" "Mr Kironde,
My info came from the executive.".

Let me make this clear that we as the Executive branch of UNAA  have never met with members of the EC. If indeed there is an Executive member that has had conversations as regards to how much fees should be set up for candidates. If indeed such a conversation was carried out, it was as an individual and not in the capacity as a sitting Executive Committee of the UNAA Leadership. Mr Musoke's comments have prompted some of the members that called to wonder if the EC is compromised. Therefore Mr Musoke, it will do us more good as prospective Voting members in the upcoming elections to have you name your sources by names rather than quote the Executive and leave members with holes to fill in the blanks and start building unnecessary mountains out of mole hills as one member stated. We just need the truth from all Candidates rather than the ambiguity displayed in such statements as such above.

Folks in this silly season, get the facts before you cast your vote, the future of the organization depends on it.

Kind Regards

Mr Musoke, you have raised good points in response to,the guidelines as set by the UNAA EC, moreso, on the candidate fee. My concern,  however  you open your remarks that you "have been informed...." that the bulk of the fee squarely lies on the background checks of candidates. Who informs you tis and since you declared yourself as s poosible runner, are you in constant contact with the EC? If your response in not in the affirmative, please be clear if you are submitting personal or other people's opinions and the EC.

>I have been informed that the bulk of the new increased candidate fees goes to back ground checks and I visited the website for the company that the Election Commission chose to work with (Accurate Now, Inc.).  Based on the charges I saw, it appears that UNAA will pay no more than $40 for each person. Therefore, I am not sure why the EC is charging $150 (Secretary) to $250 (President). Does it cost more to run a background check on presidential candidates? Also, Youth Representatives ($25) and Council ($50) members will not have background checks.  So why are they charged fees?
