DRC: New fighting between FARDC and M23 north of Goma

Calm returned Monday, July 22 afternoon in the group Kibati, north of Goma, after heavy fighting between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the rebel March 23 (M23) in the day . The spokesman of the army in North Kivu, Colonel Olivier Hamuli, announced without elaborating on the outcome of the fighting.

The fighting reportedly took place intermittently throughout the day on Monday, before stopping before nightfall, according to the spokesman of the FARDC in North Kivu. No report has been advanced so far in terms of casualties.

But a rocket landed this afternoon Mabanga North neighborhood, without exploding. The impact, however, remains visible on the clapboard house on Avenue salongo II, partially destroyed.

According to the NGO deminers Synergy for Mine Action ( Sylam ), called for help, another rocket would have fallen not far from the clinic Konde in Katoyi neighborhood. The rocket had exploded without causing victims, the sources said.
