{UAH} Dallas Welcome's the Higher Education Forum at the 25th UNAA Convention
Dear UNAA Members,
When tasked with organizing the 25th Annual UNAA Convention, we wanted something more than just another convention, we wanted a platform from which ideas could be discussed that would help us as a people in the diaspora and our motherland.
I approached a couple of Dallasites in higher education to organize a Higher Education Forum that could generate action items that could possibly lead to scholarships, fellowships, student exchange visits, professor exchanges, etc with USA Universities.
I thank the very good work done by Dr. Lillian Niwagaba, Prof. Samuel Muwanguzi, Prof. Michael Kaluya, Eugene Arigye, PhD, Dr. Julius Sonko, among others.
I hope that irrespective of who wins the UNAA Presidency in Dallas next week, this forum becomes a main stay at the UNAA Conventions.
6) The organization needs to continue moving beyond being just a convention organization; the upcoming jobs board is a positive development, we now need to continue pushing on areas like Education – scholarships for our high school students as well as college students; the Higher Education Initiative that will be taking place at the Dallas Convention for the first time is a welcome development. As president, we will continue pushing for these changes.
Some of the participants include;
1) Pen-Moji Nyeko - Vice Chancellor, Gulu University
2) Dr. James Nkata, Director of the East African Institute of Higher Education Studies and Development (EAIHESD)
3) Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba, Vice Chancellor, Uganda Technology and Management University
4) Hon. John Miyingo, State Minister for Higher Education
5) Dr. Richard Nader, Vice President, Academic Affairs - University of North Texas
