The mother to Uganda's first Olympic Gold medalist late John Akii-Bua has died at the age of 104 in Lira town.

Born on 1909, Salume Angwech Bua that became a widow in 1965 when her husband late chief Lucepo Bua died, passed away on Wednesday from the home of her son Paul Sunday Bua at Iredha village, in Lira town. She was brought some months back when her health condition worsened.

In May this year, the mother of nine, asked the government to consider rehabilitating her dilapidated buildings in Abako Sub County Alebtong district but she died too soon before the government could receive her plea.

Having been lucky and enjoyed this world for about 104 years, Angwech died of natural cause. She is expected to be buried sometime next week at her ancestral home village at Abako Sub County pending the decision of the clan authority.

Living a simple life and preferred mainly to live in the village, the deceased died a committed Christian and a known teacher by birth since she was always seen teaching her grand children at home.

Ajuri County Mp Denis Hamson Obua says the deceased deserve to be a heroine in the region since she produced a hero, the man who first brought Uganda to a World map.

Obua want the government to extend a financial support to the family to cater for burial arrangement.
He says as Lango Parliamentary group they are considering writing to president Museveni requesting for the support.

Rebecca Amuge Otengo the Minister of state for Northern Uganda described the hailed the deceased for having led a distinctive life style which enabled her to live longer.

She asked other women to emulate the deceased lifestyle saying she was a committed true Lango woman that educated all her children even after the death of her husband.
