Rwanda's Kagame slams 'selective' ICC justice

Cape Town – Rwandan President Paul Kagame has accused the International Criminal Court of dispensing "selective" justice, in the latest blast of criticism from Africa against the court, a report says.

According to Africa review, Kagame said the world was divided into categories which saw some people having the power to use international justice to judge others.

He said it was not plausible to have an international justice system that dispensed justice selectively or politically.

Kagame's remarks come at a time when the African Union has clearly stated it will not allow a sitting head of state to be prosecuted by an international tribunal – in a clear reference to the trial that is about to begin at the ICC against Kenya's leader Uhuru Kenyatta, who is accused of crimes against humanity.

Some African leaders accuse the ICC of disproportionately targeting Africans.

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe is said to have openly advised Kenyatta not to attend his trial set to begin on 12 November. The veteran leader said Kenyatta could not reduce himself by appearing before ICC when no Western leader had been subjected to such treatment.

The international court has indicted only Africans so far.
