Star Stephen Kiprotich has Steadily Started Showing Signs of Exhaustion an Indicator UAAF should Groom Someone Else

By Daniels N.Tatya

Not everything that glitters is GOLD! In his aristocratic cars, a hefty bank account with six figure digit monthly state pay-cheque, good and balanced media coverage, nice diet, fully furnished house and good training facilities lately, Kiprotich is honestly glittering.

However his glittering does not transform itself in good performances. And it does not honestly guarantee gold for his fans.

It seems his 2012 marathon success in London Olympics coupled with other success stories since he hit the success line are but the only memories he can only post at the local athletics federation in Uganda.

Long distance runner Kiprotich, the 2012 Olympic champion in the marathon, with a winning time of 2:08:01 in hot, sunny, and humid conditions is steadily losing his feat at international meets.

The Olympic golden hero is Uganda's only gold winner since 1996, the first gold medal since 1972, and the first ever in the marathon.

His other winning of the Moscow IAAF championship marathon on 17th August 2013 also made him the reigning World and Olympic marathon champion.

Considered a national hero, mostly based upon his gold medal coupled with his other athletic achievements, UAAF might someone else to groom if more gold is to be dug internationally.

Last Sunday he finished a distant 12th yet he was the center of attraction in the build-up to this year's ING New York Marathon.

The attention was understandable as Kiprotich lined up with over 40,000 runners for one of the most lucrative marathons.

Kiprotich took to the starting line as Olympic and World Champion solid credentials that also had the Ugandan as a serious contender for the $500,000(sh1.2bn) World Marathon Majors (WMA) top prize.

But as it turned out, Kiprotich faded to 12th position as a new Ugandan star emerged in Jackson Kiprop.

Kiprop finished seventh sending a clear message that the times when he entered races as a pace setter for Kiprotich could well be over.

As Kiprotich struggled to keep abreast with the front pack, Kiprop had an easier morning at times even surging into the lead of a race won by Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai in 2:08:24.

The man who sealed his place in World sport history in just two hours, eight minutes and one second to end a forty year wait for Olympic gold became a laughing stock last Sunday with a series of factors standing in his way to further marathon success.

Burnout:

Its likely Kiprotich is succumbing to over working as he does routine training sessions under the scorching sun in the far eastern Uganda and sometimes in Kenya. His body maybe has started wearing out so he can no long compete favorable with a body that can't take in anymore. He is simply exhausted!

Upcoming competition:

If then his body is not exhausted, then the runner is being ambushed by the upcoming and hopeful athletes wanting to prove a point or two.

Either the upcoming stars are doing a lot of training compared to Kiprotich's or he is simply not doing things right.

Sumptuous life:

What sounds like a joke might be actually true with Kiprotich. That he has a car means he is no longer doing enough walking rounds and therefore might have added weight making him heavier than required.

These among other factors, could be why Kiprotich is steadily losing his feat and before Ugandans know it, he could be no more on the field and track sport.

In all, his aristocratic cars, a hefty bank account with six figure monthly state pay-cheque, good and balanced media coverage, nice diet, fully furnished house and good training facilities lately means he is not struggling and but glittering. Yet not everything that glitters is GOLD; Kiprotich is confirming the adage!
