DP Elder Ssebaana Kizito Traces Lukwago’s Problems to Political Immaturity as Zephaniah Ofwono Opondo Rubbishes Judiciary Position Upholding Lukwago as Lord Mayor

By Stephen K Muwambi

Former Mayor and DP elder John Ssebaana Kizito has diagnosed the political disease that claimed Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s post.

According to the old man, it’s political immaturity more than anything else that led the good Lord Mayor into deep s***t.

When Lukwago found himself with many NRM councilors at City Hall, the experienced businessman and politician reasoned, the fallen Lord Mayor had to befriend some of them instead of bickering with the ruling Party leaning councilors.

Drawing from his own experience as a two time Mayor, Ssebaana said he managed to serve his terms successfully because he made the majority NRM councilors his friends instead of enemies.

“Lukwago’s immaturity unveiled when he even bickered with councilors from his DP and FDC Parties.  Little wonder, majority joined the NRM ruling MPs to impeach him, Ssebaana argued.

That said and done, Ssebaana however took a swipe at Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze for rejecting a court order that had stopped him from organizing the impeachment session.

Following the Judiciary’s Tuesday statement which emphasized that Deputy Registrar Fred Wanindi had put off the impeachment exercise, meaning whatever the councilors did was a nullity; Government Spokesperson Zephaniah Ofwono Opondo aka ZOO has insisted Lukwago was properly knifed.

“Lukwago had better leak his wounds. He is no longer Lord Mayor after majority councilors impeached him, Ofwono argued. Ofwono joins Attorney General Peter Nyombi who has already opposed the party-spoiler injunction that could turn out to be a spanner in the works for those who thought had impeached Lukwago.

Nyombi has denied reports that Lukwago’s legal team served the injunction on him as the law requires. As such, Nyombi argues, there was nothing to stop the impeachment exercise. Writing in the Government owned New Vision on Tuesday, Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze also supported the impeachment.

Pouring cold water on the injunction, Tumwebaze wondered why court had to sit before 9.00am, the normal time for transacting business, in order to issue the order. He also never made a mention of the injunction being served on him which would have stopped him from transacting the impeachment business.

However, Lukwago’s lawyer Kiwanuka Kayongo who wanted to serve the injunction order onto Tumwebaze was intercepted by security and Kanyamas before being flogged to pulp.
