{UAH} Kiboga Man Stabs Wife to Death for Demanding Xmas Accountability
Kiboga police are holding an elderly man accused of stabbing his wife to death after she demanded for accountability for 100,000 shillings they set aside for the Christmas festivities. The suspect is 80-year-old Elifazi Barungyira, resident of Kyetinda village Bukomero sub-county Kiboga district.
Barungyira is wanted for stabbing his wife Gorrate Twinobushigye to death using a spear on Monday. Stephen Ssemanda, the officer in charge of Criminal Investigations at Kiboga Central Police Station says Barungyira stabbed Twinobushigye to death after she allegedly demanded for accountability for the 100,000 shillings they set aside for the Christmas festivities.
According to Ssemanda, the couple had planned to use part of the money to buy pork for the family, but Barungyira returned home on Monday drunk and empty handed. As a result, his wife demanded an explanation on what had happened to the money. Barungyira allegedly fumed and picked up spear and stabbed her in the chest killing her instantly.
Ssemanda says the suspect who is being held at Kiboga central police station will be arraigned in court next week to face charges of murder. In his statement Barungyira regrets spearing his wife to death saying he doesn't know what came over him. He says that they had not quarreled with his wife over anything in the last 30 years of their marriage.
He however, says on the fateful day; the deceased confronted him with a machete while demanding for accountability yet he had spent the money to buy drinks for himself and his friends. Ssemanda says apart from the murder, the Christmas festivities in the district were peaceful.
