{UAH} Gashumba Nailed Over Shs8.5m Conning Scandal

Convicted of conspiracy to defraud dfcu in February 2011, Gashumba allegedly contacted a Turkish firm dealing in fire tenders saying government had allocated shs79.9bn for purchase of fire trucks.

Gashumba and three others presented themselves as senior officials in Internal Affairs Ministry. They are in police custody in Kampala.

Deputy Police spokesman, Mr Vincent Ssekate says Gashumba and his colleagues face charges of obtaining money by impersonation, pretence, forgery, uttering false documents and theft.

He says Gashumba, whose file is now on the DPP's desk, impersonated the Ministry's PS Dr. Stephen Kagoda.

Police says on August 9 2011, Gashumba, impersonating Kagoda, emailed EYG Group Limited directing the company to supply government 58 fire tenders.

Gashumba advised the company to treat the transaction with discreet secrecy for "security reasons".

The Turks later jetted into the country to pen signatures on the agreement.

They were received by Gashumba's agents and chauffered to his office.

Gashumba asked for Shs8.5m for registration of the company.

 

However, after questioning authenticity of reciepts, the Turks rushed to police who later netted him. 

Gashumba has been holding press conferences slamming NRM politicians for indulging in corruption tendencies.
