Dark Day for Mbabazi as NRM MPs Pin the Premier before the President for using them  in his Scheme to bring the Top Boss Down

By Stephen K Muwambi

It was the ugliest day for Premier John Patrick Amama Mbabazi when NRM MPs exposed his political maneuvers against President Museveni; which evidence left his boss lost for words.

Mbabazi has been Museveni’s trusted lieutenant up until a few years back when intelligence dug up info indicating that the Kanungu man had built a power base within the party, opposition and across the country that would easily dislodge the President from power.

Mbabazi’s day of reckoning finally came  today at Kyankwanzi jungles when several MPs from the NRM party testified before the President on how the NRM Secretary General had talked to them to support and market his (Mbabazi’s) presidential candidature.

Info we have from the on-going NRM caucus retreat in Kyankwanzi shows that Mbabazi sweated and turned in his seat in untold discomfort as the ruling party brought forward evidence implicating him in working to bring down his boss Museveni.

“You should have been there. Mbabazi was shaking like a reed in the monsoon wind as he was finally stopped in his tracks,†an NRM MP who called himself Museveni’s loyal dog mused.

Ambushed

Sources privy to the exposure tell us that the whole episode took Mbabazi unawares and when it was finally executed the smart lawyer and political animal had no idea what awaited him.

As the MPs rolled off water tight evidence, President Museveni listened with a Pope’s patience and his body language showed he loved whatever he was hearing to interrupt the confessions’ session, our pries told us.

Composed

After hearing the evidence, Museveni excused himself to probably ponder on the next move, which his Think Tank now demand must be nothing but the sack of Mbabazi, as we reported in our February 10 story, “Details Emerge how President Museveni is Under Intense Pressure to Drop Premier Mbabazi as a Plot is Hatched to woo Unsettled Nandala Mafabi for the Big Job’

We understand that many MPs had approached the President with overwhelming evidence about Mbabazi political overtures, but the NRM chairman and his handlers chose the NRM retreat for the shaming session.

Frantic denials

Mbabazi has variously denied promoting his candidature behind Museveni’s back. However, his supporters and relatives, including daughters betrayed his denials by always making open comments via social media andnewspaper write-ups indicating it was his constitutional right to run for the Presidency.

When he realized his boss had water tight intelligence of his presidential ambitions, Mbabazi went around telling all and sundry that he would only stand for the Presidency if his NRM party urged him. Unwittingly for Mbabazi such statements only served to prove to Museveni and his strategists that the Prime Minister had political ambitions which he was cunningly denying.

Impatient

Later Museveni’s intelligence busted vital info indicating that Mbabazi had become uneasy waiting for Museveni’s resignation since he ( Mbabazi)  was growing old and so wanted to stand in 2016 before clocking the perquisite age.

Herd of foes

The old adage, ‘the higher one goes, the hotter it becomes’ rings so loud in Mbabazi’s case. His accelerated promotion which has even seen him chairing the army council at times though he is not one of the original NRA bush fighters has earned the Kanungu man a lot of enemies.

Many of the soldiers have looked at Mbabazi as a social climber and jolly-come-lately who has amassed a lot of power to their detriment.

Along the way to the top, Mbabazi has stepped on so many people’s toes, including Prof Gilbert Baalibaseka Bukenya who came up with the famous “Mafia jibe†to get back at the Premier for sticking his nose into his wealth. Others are Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga with whom they have openly squabbled over who is next in the Presidential succession line.

Not to forget the Luweero decorated war General Severino Kahinda Otafiire who has never forgiven Mbabazi for ‘unfairly’ wrestling the NRM party’s powerful Secretary General job from him.

“Mbabazi’s family has turned into everything. The wife has a big post in NRM. The girls are purchasing officers for the party. The father is Premier, NRM Secretary General. What are the rest of us supposed to do then?,†an angry Otafiire burst out in the past.
