Former ministers arrogant, say MPs - News
MPs investigating the rail tender row have accused two former Cabinet ministers of arrogance.
Members of the Public Investments Committee said Mr Amos Kimunya and Mr Chirau Ali Mwakwere, who served as Transport ministers, were contemptuous.
While Mr Mwakwere appeared before the team on Monday, Mr Kimunya declined to face the committee, saying he had nothing new to tell them as President Kenyatta had said everything on the tender. The team summoned Mr Kimunya to appear before it on Tuesday next week.
PIC is investigating corruption allegations in the awarding of the tender to construct the standard gauge railway.
Mr Mwakwere was at one point declared a hostile witness even as he admitted that he identified the China Road and Bridge Construction Company, the firm at the centre of the row.
The former minister said he checked CRBC on the Internet and was confident that it could build the railway. But a shouting match ensued after the former minister said he wanted to give a detailed presentation but the committee only asked him to respond to specific questions.
"It is not in our interest to receive any further answers from him,…that is not the route we want to take," said Mr Adan Keynan, the Eldas MP chairing the powerful committee. Kisumu Town West MP Olago Aluoch accused the former ministers of being derogatory and contemptuous to MPs.
