Otonde Odera (78) who hails from Rambugu village in Rarieda sub county claims that his efforts to have his former employers pay him terminal dues has been unsuccessful since he was sent on compulsory leave in 1986 following the ouster of the then President Milton Obote by the current President Yoweri Museveni.
Mzee Otonde who served as the head cook at state house in Entebbe Uganda from 1962 to 1986 is languishing in extreme poverty and is unable to fend for his large family since he cannot access his benefits to support their livelihood.
Speaking to the press in Bondo, Mzee Otonde who was in tears recalled how he was tortured before being deported to Kenya empty handed leaving behind all his investments and property.
The renowned cook who prepared dishes for former Ugandan presidents Idi Amin, Milton Obote and the current president Yoweri Museveni among other visiting heads of states, stated that he has approached former Foreign affairs Minister Raphael Tuju and the area MP Nicholas Gumbo to come to his aid but the move has borne not fruit.
He has therefore asked the Kenyan government through the ministry of foreign affairs and international relations to contact their Ugandan counterpart to enable him get his terminal dues.
To confirm that he was validly employed at the state house, Otonde produced a letter dated March 25th, 1986 signed by the principal private secretary to the President which indicated he was proceeding on leave as the only document he managed to retain as he hastily left Uganda.
