{UAH} MAYMUNA KENYI MY LOVE YOU HAVE AN EMAIL ABOUT BUGIRI HOSPITAL

Mayimuna Kenyi

Who exactly made the bed breakfast and what was it? I am going to come back to that discussion for I have more questions than answers about it. I have taken long without writing to you, sorry about that but your concern on Bugiri hospital is very real and what you wrote went exactly as it should have come from the Mayimuna I know. So let us address it. To those that missed the Bugiri hospital tragedy this is the Utube that we sadly watched yesterday and which broke all of our hearts including Mayimuna Kenyi that I am writing to her about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMgXSfMZBRw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

It is not only you whose heart was broken, so was mine, I sat and watched this Utube and it made me puke because no human being can have this as a healing center, and as you raised the issue of raising the battalion of 70,000 members to push this hospital forward so was my call all yesterday till when I lifted this very Utube and took it to a very dear friend that I have worked with, for a very long time and her only job is to fund raise. Kenyi as you know there are people in this society who specialize into fund raising so is this girl, she fundraises for major hospitals and major political parties on a very sizable commission. Among the hospitals she has fundraised for is Hospital for sick kids in Toronto, Sunny Brook she did the other day, and many hospitals in Central and South America, so she is not a small potato. She starts with companies like Apple Cicsco Air Canada Telus and the list continues so she clearly understands the industry. I needed her to look at what is in Bugiri hospital so that she gives me a second opinion before I make some serious commitment about it. We sat in a nice summer patio restaurant for lunch and the Utube of Bugiri hospital rolled up.

At the end of the tape and after we stopped the food 2 minutes into it, she stood up and yelled at me if I was out of my mind to even think of fundraising for this hospital, and allow me to elaborate her stand. Fund raising was created to push people that want change and simply cannot reach it, the Bugiri people do not want change, what they need is Kibooko. They have a failed government as many people we fundraise for do, my God governments in Central and South America are many failed governments, but the people are not failed. It is those that we fundraise for. When you go El Salvador or Jamaica you will find a hospital that has such old beds and old mattresses that have not been changed for the last 40 years, you offload a container of the beds and matters, drag out the old stinky ones and replace them with the new ones you have taken in, Bugiri hospital did not have a single mattress. Museveni never removed them but those very same Ugandans removed them. The beds that we saw were so ravaged and so torn, Museveni never destroyed them but those very same Ugandans destroyed them. Mayimuna there was never a single bed sheet in this hospital, what happened to the one thy had originally? Did Museveni remove it too? No they themselves stole them or sold them off. So this is just a bad culture of destroying what is yours because you think the government will hand you another one, she exclaimed, even if we send them new ones they are going to do exactly the very same thing to them.

There is a broken sink that took much of our time for we kept on rolling back and forth on it. Sinks are made out of materials that is tough to take some serious beating, when you look in all blown up buildings due to wars and tragedies, the only thing that  pops up complete, is a sink for it is made to take that kind of a beating. Mayimuna the sink in that hospital had a broken off quarter, how did that happen? Did Museveni hit it too? No the people of Bugiri went after it with a jack hammer and broke it. That thing is made of tough caustic material and it managed to take a tough stand that only a quarter was destroyed, in my entire life I have never seen a sink that split up, but the people of Bugiri managed to push it that far. That is a sign of a population that goes after property and destroys it no matter how beneficial it is to them. We can send a container of sinks to them but they will chip them the very same way.

Medical doctors are trained to safe guard society from health issues, and a doctor as that one is the man that protects his local people from diseases by setting up parameters and quarantines, he is supposed to inform the ministry of breakouts and parameters of the infections. Why is he allowing the people to sit into such a pandemic? How about his very own life and how safe is it? Is that a place you sit in and go home to your kids for I have been at work?  When this hospital was still a good hospital and it became a bad hospital, it became an infection center, then an epidemic to transform its self into a pandemic it is today, what steps did this doctor take to protect his people? When the first Bat walked into the hospital, did he know about it? What exactly did he do? The Bat got married and the family made babies which made babies, they got Federalism and stared to divide the hospital roof into smaller states that pushed them to go to Luwero and pick up their cousins and in laws and they decided to start handing out immigration status to Bats from Kenya. Where was this doctor and what did he do about it? There was raw sewage floating the floor, that sewage was piled up by Ugandans, again not by Museveni but by Ugandans. She wanted to understand this, how did that raw sewage come in? Did those very same Ugandans see that the systems are plugged up and they still dropped their pants and dumped a dump on a system plugged? Do they dump into it to today? Till when will they stop dumping into a blocked system? Until when Museveni walks to Bugiri and tell them to stop?

When a government fails in any country out there, you see it on the faces of the people. In many countries we have seen failed governments the bodies of the people witnesses the sufferings of the locals. She had a problem that the people of Bugiri actually look very fine and healthy. The women that are crying for they have no water looked better than this lady and my self-combined. If they live under duress under this government to a point of this hospital being this pathetic, why are their bodies looking that healthy? The medical doctor looked cute, she exclaimed. Can I have him she laughed. When you go Somalia or Cuba or any of these poverty stricken countries people and doctors do not look healthy for they do not eat well and they do not get medical attention, why are the Bugiri people that healthy if the government has failed them that much? By the look on their skin she argued these people are very rich people, and they live a higher life style, that is a doctor with a very large house and his children probably studying out of Uganda. They just decided to sacrifice their own weak to tap into the donor community and they use that money plus the very little money from the government to run their very own private lives. The reason this doctor does not close this pandemic is because everyone that walks into it ends up with a broken heart and opens up a wallet and these people end up looking good. If the money spent in The Toronto hospital for sick kids is not spent and we all sit in this city and eat it, EM would have got a glittering skin as that one.

To cut the very long story short, we ended up agreeing that if the government of Uganda is that bad to push the population to that level and it has failed to help them, if they really believed that they can do better, and they were not part of the problem but Museveni, The Bugiri people would have already taken the streets and rioted to send a message to Uganda government that this is not acceptable. When a government abandons its people, when the people feel they can do better, they move from these institutions and take the streets, but because this hospital has become a very treasure that feeds them in the small way, they have accepted to live with it and trust me they cannot agree to clean it up for when you clean up this mess you are stopping their bread and butter. She said that the best one can do for them is to hide this Utube and simply go to Bugiri, study their life style talk to old people  and bring their history here with a cry of we need a brand new hospital for them  because they have nowhere to be treated. But when you use this Utube you will never get a penny out of any  one. But standing up and build a new hospital for them is also morally wrong for they will destroy it the very same way they have destroyed this one. We both left the restaurant shaking our heads.

Mayimuna my family went to Uganda for Christmas, but there is nothing that surprised my daughter like how dirty Ugandans are. She made a Utube that really surprised me, apparently Kampala has bought garbage trucks, they have some kind of garbage trucks,  so the trucks show up and collect the garbage, but a Ugandan has to collect his garbage and then throw it on when the truck shows up. But she has this lady that owns a saloon and she was sweeping the hair pilling it all up, and throwing it into the river stream. How will that ever decompose? She simply did not care. Yes the government is bad, and yes the government has failed, but it has bought the garbage truck and it shows up to collect the dirt from your business environment, do you really want them to come to the river stream and scoop your cut hair? The people of Masaka hospital were being bitten by snakes. Should Museveni also show up and cut the grass around the hospital? When do Ugandans themselves become responsible for their own country? There are so many plates that she has with people eating and simply put the plate on the ground with food and walk away. Where does that happen? Should Museveni walk in your garage and tell you that this is not health to you? When did Nakasero market start to sell tomatoes from the ground? That was a very high end market when did this happen? And what is this culture of selling tomatoes from the marrum road at bare soil? When did Ugandans become that dirty? Is that Museveni as well?

I still love you darling and always will.
