{UAH} Att: Katiikiro: Buganda do away with Mailo Land - it is Anti Buganda

Buganda and Baganda should abolish Mailo land and return the same land to Baganda as communal land under the stewardship of the Kabaka as it were.

Otherwise, there is a possibility of invoking the UN Native Rights.

Why should a few individuals, out of now 7-8 million Baganda, own chunks of huge expanse of land, and continue to benefit from such land, which land actually belong to all Baganda?!!

How much contribution are mailo land owners, making to the Kingdom from selling and reselling this land?!!!

It is purely illogical, for both the owners, the Baganda and Buganda Kingdom, to allow just one person to own miles and miles of land which since time immemorial, they have failed to utilize properly to the glory and development of the kingdom but rather has generated a lot of social friction and upheavals.

Despite the fact that the Baganda, had access to this land as bibanja holders, it is also becoming difficult for poor Baganda to access this through the old age system (bibanja) which land is increasing becoming a source of millions of shilling to capitalistic selling and reselling it, many times over, hence subjecting bibanja holders, to untold suffering across the Kingdom.

Mailo land owners should gracefully realise the mistakes of their parents and grand-grandparents and return the land to the people of Buganda to whom the land belongs under an old age system.
