IDF soldier killed by mortar shell near Gaza Strip border
The Israel Defense Forces announced on Sunday that a soldier was killed after he was struck by a mortar shell fired by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The soldier has been identified as Chief Sgt. Barak Refael Degorker, a 27-year-old from the town of Gan Yavne. Degorker is the 43rd soldier to die in Operation Protective Edge.
The army on Saturday released the names of several IDF soldiers who succumbed to their wounds which they incurred during the ground incursion in the Gaza Strip.
Captain Liad Lavi, an officer in an infantry unit, died late Saturday after he was hospitalized in the wake of wounds he had sustained in the southern Gaza Strip on Thursday.
Chief Warrant Officer Rami Cahlon, a non-commissioned officer serving in the Paratroopers Brigade, died after succumbing to wounds he had sustained in Gaza last week. He was 39 years old.
Three IDF soldiers were killed in Israel's ground offensive in Gaza in the early hours of Saturday, the IDF announced Saturday afternoon.
The IDF released the names of the six soldiers who were killed in action in Gaza over the weekend.
St.-Sgt. Guy Boyland, 21, served as a combat engineer with the 7th Armored Brigade. He was killed in a firefight with Hamas gunmen on Friday in the southern Gaza Strip.
He made aliya from New Zealand when he was two years old and lived in Kibbutz Ginosar on Lake Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee). He is survived by his parents and a sister. Boyland's funeral will be held at 5 p.m. in Ginosar.
St.-Sgt. Amit Yeori, 20, from Jerusalem, was in the Engineering Corps. He was killed on Friday in the same battle as Boyland. He is survived by his parents and two siblings. Yeori's funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the military section of Mount Herzl Cemetery in the capital.
St.-Sgt. Guy Levy, 21, from Kfar Vradim near Ma'alot in the North, served in the Armored Corps. Levy was killed on Friday afternoon when Hamas fired an anti-tank missile at his position from near an UNRWA school. He is survived by his parents and a sister. His funeral will be held at 5 p.m. at the Gan Vradim cemetery.
Lt. Roy Peles, 21, from Tel Aviv, served in the Nahal Brigade and was killed when an anti-tank missile struck his position in Gaza early on Saturday. He is survived by his parents and two siblings. Details for his funeral had yet to be announced.
St.-Sgt. Avraham Grintzvaig, 21, from Petah Tikva, served in the Nahal Brigade and was killed early on Saturday in combat in northern Gaza. He is survived by his parents and a sister.
Grintzvaig's funeral will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday in the military section of Segula Cemetery, east of the city.
St.-Sgt. Gal Bason, 21, from Holon, served in the Engineering Corps. He was killed in the northern Gaza Strip early on Saturday. He is survived by his parents and two siblings. Bason's funeral will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday in the military section of Holon cemetery.
